Deep links

Jump straight into a conversation, session, or Space with finch:// links

Finch supports a special link format starting with finch://. Clicking one jumps directly to the corresponding spot or action in Finch — like opening a new conversation or a past session — without you having to find it manually.

Unlike a regular URL, a finch:// link opens the Finch app directly and performs the action, rather than opening in a browser.

Common deep links

What it doesFormatExample
Open a new conversationfinch://newOpen a new conversation
New conversation with a message pre-filledfinch://chat?message=your message[Summarize my to-dos for today](finch://chat?message=Summarize my to-dos for today)
Open a past sessionfinch://open?id=sessionIdGet it via a session's right-click "Copy link"
Jump to a Spacefinch://open?target=space&id=spaceIdGet it from the Space list

The most common one is finch://chat?message=... — it works like a "one-click ask" button: anyone (including you) can click it to send a preset message to Finch, without typing anything.

How to use it

1. Just click it

If you see a blue finch:// link in a Finch conversation or a document, just click it — Finch jumps to the right place automatically.

2. Write your own

Format it as a Markdown link and you get a clickable deep link:

[Show me today's schedule](finch://chat?message=Show me today's schedule)

Use this to pre-bake a question or action into a link that fires the moment it's opened — great for manuals, quick-access shortcuts, or FAQ collections.

3. Copy a link from the session menu

To share or bookmark a specific conversation, find it in the sidebar, right-click (or open the "more" menu), and choose "Copy link." You get a finch://open?id=... link — send it to someone or save it, and opening it jumps straight back to that conversation.

A few to try right now

  • Open a new conversation
  • [Help me organize today's tasks](finch://chat?message=Help me organize today's tasks)
  • [Tell me a joke](finch://chat?message=Tell me a joke)
  • [Design a custom theme for me](finch://chat?message=Design a custom theme for me)

Tips

  • If the message you want to pre-fill has spaces, replace them with %20 when writing the link; non-ASCII characters need no special handling.
  • Deep links only work inside the Finch app. Opening them elsewhere (e.g. in a browser or chat app) may not do anything unless Finch is installed on that machine.
